Renaissance is a holistic redevelopment funded by the Charlotte Housing Authority, HOPE VI Funds and several other sources. Rather than focusing on a single component of community change, holistic initiatives include mixed-income housing, radically improved cradle-to-college educational opportunities, youth and adult development programs, job training, health and wellness programs, transportation access and recreational opportunities.
The newest phase of development, The Residences, provides working families with safe, quality housing in brand new apartment homes that offer affordability, convenience and assurance. The Residences at Renaissance is situated in the heart of the The Renaissance community – a vibrant neighborhood that has all the modern conveniences you need for you and your family.
All of The Renaissance apartment homes have been built to Earthcraft standards and the clubhouse is seeking LEED for new construction certification through the US Green Building Council. The mixed-income housing is being developed and managed by Laurel Street Residential.
IN ADDITION TO THE RESIDENCES, THE REDEVELOPMENT SITE WILL ALSO INCLUDE:
K-8 Charter School
5-Star Childhood Development Center
Community Center
Youth and adult developmental programs
Retreat at Renaissance, apartments for low-income seniors and the disabled
Health and wellness services
Renaissance West Community Initiative
RWCI is a non-profit organization coordinating the education and services continuum of the former Boulevard Homes public housing site into a vibrant, village called Renaissance.
RWCI is planning to expand its scope of impact beyond the redevelopment site, working to improve the quality of life for community members. The proposed educational and community programs will create opportunities for neighbors to actively engage in holistic revitalization.
